What changed on the 2026 forms
- Box 14 split into 14a and 14b. What used to go in box 14–Other now goes in 14a; 14b is for the Treasury Tipped Occupation Code. Box 9 shrank to make room, so W-2 print positions need reprogramming.
- Reporting threshold raised from $600 to $2,000 for wages paid after 2025 where no federal income, Social Security, or Medicare tax was withheld. It indexes to inflation after 2026.
- New box 12 code TP reports total cash tips, tied to the new deduction for qualified tips.
- Penalties went up for late or incorrect information returns filed after December 31, 2025.
- 1099-NEC layout. IRS drafts move the 2026 1099-NEC from 3-up to 2-up; Broker Forms ships whichever layout the final IRS specifications require.
